More Than Individual Building Systems
A professional automation project is not simply a collection of connected products. Lighting, climate, shading, audio, security, access and other systems each have their own equipment, wiring and interfaces.
Madoc designs how those systems work together. We establish the control architecture, coordinate the required interfaces and program the automation so the building behaves as one considered system.
What is building automation?
Building automation is the coordinated control of the systems a building depends on, including lighting, HVAC, shading, security, access, energy and other integrated building services. Instead of each system running on its own separate controller, they are brought together through a central control architecture that manages schedules, sensors, user interfaces and the interlocks between systems. The result is a building that behaves as one system, and whose behaviour can be adjusted or extended later without replacing the underlying equipment. Where appropriate, Loxone forms the automation core. Madoc also works with technologies such as KNX, DALI-2 and other documented building interfaces according to the requirements of each project.
Systems We Design and Integrate
Each discipline is considered as part of the wider building rather than treated as an isolated product.
01 Lighting Control
Madoc designs lighting control around the electrical layout, circuit requirements and the way each space is intended to operate. Depending on the project, this can include relay control, phase cut dimming, DALI-2, scene programming and sensor logic.
02 Climate and HVAC Integration
Compatible air conditioning and HVAC systems can be integrated into the wider control architecture for coordinated room and zone control. Madoc has delivered projects including multi-zone VRV and FCU integration.
03 Motorised Shading
Motorised curtains and blinds can be coordinated with lighting, scenes and building logic. Madoc plans the control interface, wiring requirements and automation behaviour around the selected shading system.
04 Multi-Room Audio
Madoc designs and integrates multi-room audio around the required zones and building functions. Audio can support everyday listening as well as selected announcements and automation alerts.
05 Security and Monitoring
Where appropriate, dedicated CCTV, alarm and sensor systems can provide information to the automation system while remaining independent where that is the better engineering approach.
06 Access Control
Door and access functions can be incorporated into the wider building system where supported by the selected equipment and project requirements.
07 Energy Monitoring
Metering and energy functions can be incorporated where required by the project and where the selected equipment provides the necessary interfaces.
The Infrastructure Behind the Automation
Reliable automation depends on the infrastructure behind it. Madoc considers the control panel, wiring, interfaces and supporting network as part of the system design rather than as separate afterthoughts.
01 Automation and Control Panels
Madoc assembles automation and control panels around the requirements of each project, including DIN rail control hardware, terminals, relays, dimmers, power supplies and labelled circuit interfaces.
02 Electrical and Control Infrastructure
Madoc defines and coordinates the wiring, circuits and control interfaces required by the automation system. Depending on the project scope, electrical installation may form part of Madoc’s works or be coordinated with the project’s appointed electrical contractor.
03 Professional Networking
Automation, CCTV and connected building systems depend on stable network infrastructure. Where required, Madoc designs and integrates the switching, Wi-Fi, PoE and rack infrastructure needed to support the project.
Engineering the System Before Installation
The quality of an integrated system is determined long before programming begins. Madoc reviews the project requirements, establishes the system architecture and identifies how each building discipline needs to interface with the automation.
The engineering process can include control strategy, equipment planning, interface requirements, coordination information and project documentation according to the agreed scope.

Where Separate Systems Become One Building
Programming is where the control strategy becomes real. Madoc configures automation logic, scenes, room functions, sensors and system interfaces according to the requirements of the project.
Commissioning then verifies the installation in the building itself. Circuits, zones and connected systems are tested and proven so that the automation operates as intended before handover.

Professionally integrated automation is priced differently from consumer smart-home products. The figures above describe the automation scope on a professionally engineered project rather than a fixed package.
